ThemeKit Basic Widgets

These widgets are designed to replace the EverWeb default items when creating a more professional class website.
They are better by design, code efficiency, appearance and features. These widgets are designed for reqponsive webites and do NOT require the EverWeb Responisve row to adapted them by adding unnecessary code.

Page Setup

To take full advantage of the design features in these widgets pages must be set up as follows …

  • Choose the responsive blank page
  • Set the content background to none - this is important
  • Set the content height to about 4000px
  • Set the footer height to zero - this is important when using widgets that create fixed position items
  • Delete the EverWeb Responsive Row
  • Duplicate the blank page when adding new pages
  • Prior to publishing set the content height in the Page inspector to zero

Navigation

All the widgets used in this demo are include in the ThemeKit Basic widgets pack except for the two navigation widgets - Nav Menu and Nav Side. These are included in the ThemeKit Nav widgets pack.

Navigation Styles

Website navigation has changed a lot over the years due to the proliferation of mobile devices being used by over 60% of website visitors.
Research has shown that the traditional horizontal navigation at the top of the page with dropdowns for directories is NOT the best way to go.
Navigation should be vertical and present the page links front and center in a sidebar or an overlay.
Menus with directories simply cause confusion and should be replaced by a center column navigation on websites with up to about 50 pages.
Larger websites should have a directory navigation to browse to a specific directory and a separate page navigation for the directory content.
