Blog Archive Nav Bar

The bar has three functions - each of which is optional. The signup icon opens a modal window with a MailChimp sign up form, the spyglass icon opens a Google Custom Search form and the tabs open archived pages.

MailChimp Form Set Up

Signup for a MailChimp Account or login to an existing one and follow the steps below to obtain the MailChimp ID and security code.

  • Click the "Create" button
  • Choose "Signup Form" from the popup
  • Select your site if you have more than one and click BEGIN
  • In the form options, click on "Show only required fields"
  • Click in the code field and copy - command + c
  • Open a new file TextEdit.app in plain text mode and paste the code into it
  • Click the "MailChimp Code" bar below to open the accordion
  • Identify the ID code - marked in red - in your own code and copy it to your clipboard
  • Paste this code into the "MailChimp ID" field in the widget settings
  • Identify the security code - marked in blue - ii your own code and copy it to the clipboard
  • Paste this code into the "Security" field in the widget settings
  • Save a copy of the ID and Security codes in case they are required in the future

Google Custom Search

  • Scroll down to Site search for your website and click on the GET STARTED link.
  • Scroll down and click the link to create an instance of a Custom Search Engine.
  • Click the link for using the Control Panel
  • Add your site and then click on its name
  • Set up the search engine
  • Look for "Search engine ID " and click the "Copy to clipboard" button
  • Paste this ID into a file with info about your Google Account and save it in a secure place
  • Paste the ID into the "Search ID" box in the widget settings

Navigation

The navigation is primarily for accessing archive pages but can also be used as a standard tab navigation menu.
Pages are added using the EverWeb Widget API Assets list and are linked to using relative file paths.
There is the option to display the current page in a different color.
