Swing hero
The home page hero is probably one of the most important items in a website. It is the first item the visitor sees so it must load fast and be unique to make the experience memorable.
Research has shown that the average website visitor decides whether or not to remain on the site in about two seconds. First impressions and kerb appeal are very important.
A hero item needs the following …
- A solid or gradient background for fast loading
- If an image is inserted it must be available in three sizes
- The image should be inserted in an HTML5 <picture> element
- The <picture> tag allows alt text for search engines
- Do NOT insert the image in the background
- The logo at the top left should be an internal link to the home page
- Text should be brief and to the point
- Insert a least on CTA (call to action) link
- The Call(s) To Action needs to entice the visitor to stay on the site & browse to other pages
Design
There are so many websites with similar and bland hero items. Searching for a unique and relevant design pays off in the long run.

Footer
The ThemeKit onScroll Footer widgethas a three column grid layout and swings up and in when the page bottom is reached.
The first column has a heading, text and the option for a phone number/phone call icon.
The center column also has a heading and text and the spam protected email function.
Column three has a heading, internal/external links and a smooth scroll to the top function.
The copyright text is in row two and spans all columns. It has an optional auto copyright year update function.
