Business Website Essentials
A business website must have a memorable landing page with a hero item that is different from all the others out there.
The landing page must hook the visitor in the first few seconds and make it clear what the website is about and provide a good reason for the visitor to explore it.
The page must download in less than 2 seconds on mobile phones.
Visitor Interaction
[1] The first visitor interaction is usually the CTA (call to action) link in the landing page hero. This must provide an incentive to click through to another page.
[2] Popups can be really annoying so its better to use an easily dismissed slide note like the one used on this page.
[3] Your last chance to hook a visitor before they leave yor website is to use an exit notice. The ThemeKit RE Exit Notice is described further fown this page.
Navigation
The navigation should be vertical rather than horizontal for the best chance at getting click through.
The mobile navigation action tab should be in the bottom half of the device screen with viewed on tablets or phones.
Contact
Contact info must be seen on page load and easily found on each page. Do not hide it away in the footer.
Use spam protected email functions rather than a contact form. If a contact for is used make sure it does not use reCaptch unless there is a very good reason for it.
Images
All images must be resized to the appropriate dimensions and optimised before importing into EverWeb.
Slideshow
Make sure the images have captions. If the slider autoplays it must stop on hover and the autoplay removed for mobile devices.
Animation
Animations should be few and subtle. Animation should be turned off for mobile phones except perhaps for the on load hero animation.
Footer
A large footer filled with info and links is just a waste of space. If it is esssential it should be removed for on phones.
Design For Mobile
A business website must have the design focussed on mobile phone users since they represent over 60% of the visitors and over 80% of the purchases.

Exit Notice
When the vistor moves the mouse pointer into the browser address bar with the intention of leaving the site the notice pops up in the middle of the screen.
It can be used to notify visitors of a special offer or some other reason why they shouldn't leave the website.
The exit notice has options for a heading, text, a list and a CTA style link. The list has a selection of custom list style types.
The floating close button adds a professional touch and there is an option to have the notice disappear when the link is clicked.
