Navigation
Website navigation has changed a lot over the years due to the proliferation of mobile devices used by over 68% of website visitors. Some websites have virtually all their visitors using touch devices.
A hroizontal navigation across the top of the page is no longer good practice. The navigation should open front and center with vertical links and the action tab should always be in view on the right hand side of the page.
The ThemeKit Lap Menu widget has an animated action tab with editable text and can be position left or right.
- Avoid using a horizontal menu at the top of the page
- A horizontal menu should appear below the hero item
- Avoid using dropdown for directories - use a directory navigation
- On small to medium size sites of up to 50 pages all the page links should be in view
- Larger sites should have a section menu - preferably with images - rather than use confusing directories
- Pages on larger sites should include a breadcrumb trail navigation
Menu Styles
The menu has an auto grid so it can be arranged in columns if required. If the number of links excedes the viewport height of the viewing device the overflow can be scrolled into view.
The links have a control to adjust the separation and a background hover animation. The current page can be indicated using a different background color.
The swing out from the center custom animation will help to make the website vist more memorable.
